Style Imitating Art: What's Black and White and Re(a)d All Over?

Does anyone remember the old joke about what's black and white and red (or read) all over? There were a couple of different answers- a newspaper, a zebra with a sunburn. I think there was another one too, but those were the only ones I could remember on this crazy Monday!

I'm excited to be participating in Jen from Librarian for Life and Style's first Style Imitating Art selection. You can read more about the selection and why she chose it here, but here's the inspiration:

Here's my interpretation:

SIA: BWR (What I Submitted)

I tried to take pictures outside this morning, but the light was too bright, and they kept being washed out. Instead, you get to see my after-work blah hair and part of my bedroom, including the Employees Only sign on the door. ;-)

I went with a black, white, and red (more maroon actually) color scheme. No stripes on this outfit, but the flowers on my cardigan kind of echo the wallpaper behind him. Clearly, I excelled in my art appreciation class in undergrad!

Here are a couple of closeups of the cardigan:

It should be fun to see how others interpreted this painting!

Four Eyes, One Heart

Today's outfit was loosely inspired by this week's Inspiration Monday pick:

I don't really like sheer tops that much (except for my mint top...), so I went for stripes and color blocking tucked into my black skirt. I don't have any black heels either, so I wore flats.

Four Eyes, One Heart- Posing

I had a co-worker take my pictures because I wanted to show my husband that I wore my glasses to work (he usually leaves for work about an hour before I do). I had some horrible sinus problems today, so I had to bust out the spectacles. I like them, but they kept sliding off my face when I bent over or looked down. Oops!

This photo cracked me up!

Four Eyes, One Heart- More Like Me

I can't wait to get off work today! My big plans tonight include drinking a milkshake and reading more about the Warrior Dash; we're doing it on October 5, and I'm terrified beyond belief slightly nervous. The milkshake is to soothe my fears...and help me gain more padding before the race, of course.

What I Wore: May 6, 2013

Did anyone else who participated in last week's Pantone challenge find it difficult to get dressed yesterday morning? I had planned to attempt Inspiration Monday for the first time ever to ease myself back into having to choose my own clothes, but my only maxi skirt is not sheer and not clean! Instead, I settled on this:

Not really digging this one
This is a pretty blah outfit. It was raining yesterday for what felt like the millionth day in a row. I felt pretty uninspired, and now I see that I needed some color or something different. I feel a little sad just looking at it...ha ha. The shirt does have butterflies on it. That's my only concession to spring...

I can fly!
Seriously. These pants are way longer than I realized! I may need to see if I can get them hemmed! This is really going to inspire me to stay away from just black and gray!

Doing another link up today!

What I Wore: Monday, April 29, 2013

Here we go with the Literate & Stylish and The Modern Austen Pantone challenge! I LOVE the color green, and as someone with dark hair/eyes, I feel like jewel tones work well on me. However, I had a little bit of panic when I was choosing my wardrobe for the week. I tend to take things very literally sometimes (it's the librarian in me, I suppose), so I wasn't sure if my dress was truly emerald or just pretty green. I decided to make an executive decision as a blogger and call it emerald.

I bought this dress for my wedding reception/celebration that we held a week after the wedding. Since it was close to St. Patrick's Day, we did a green theme. Today is the first time I've worn it since then, so I was glad to have an "excuse" to bust it back out. Also, I received several student compliments about it today, which is always nice!

All decked out at my wedding reception!

Who says I'm not a ham?

Unfortunately, after this day turning out to be waaaaay longer than I intended it to, I haven't had a chance to find my SD card connector and load my pictures from my camera. I'll probably come back and edit this in the next day or two and add today's outfit shots so everyone can see the hem of the dress and how I styled it. I'm not off to the best start in this challenge, am I? ;-) Found my camera connector, Fitbit charger, and iPad charger! That's like a week's worth of unpacking in one day!! Here are a couple of shots from yesterday:

Asymmetric hem. Wore the leggings for modesty...and to hide my white legs!

Want to participate in the challenge? Here's the lineup for the rest of the week. Any clothing or accessories in these colors will work!

What I Wore: Thursday, November 8, 2012

This outfit has good intentions. I like the way purple looks on me, and this was an easy combo. However, the sleeves on this shirt are a weird length, so I felt like a T-Rex all day. T-Rexes are cool until you feel like one. Rawr.

Despite my best efforts, this one doesn't want to rotate

What I Wore: Tuesday, November 6, 2012

I was running so late this morning, and in my lateness, I managed to get peanut butter all over the bottom of the pants I was originally planning to wear (they were black with blue and white pinstripes). These were a last minute substitution that I'm not happy with. Plus, when I got to work, I got peanut butter on these too. What are the odds? Maybe my peanut butter is trying to help me weed my wardrobe...

What I Wore: Thursday, October 25, 2012

Hey, guess what? I woke up late again this morning. Shock of the century. I recreated an outfit that I wore on September 26 and swapped out the shoes. Sometimes it's nice to have an outfit that you can just throw on!

What I Wore: Wednesday, October 24, 2012

This is one of those outfits that I threw on after oversleeping this morning. Oversleeping is kind of the story of my life. At some point, maybe I should change the time my alarm clock goes off and just accept it instead of dancing with the snooze button every single morning. Maybe.

This entry is kind of picture heavy today, which is odd considering I'm wearing a gray shirt and black pants and am not even particularly thrilled with it.

Looks like I'm punching the air

I liked this picture

Not an angle that I get a lot, so I kept it

Side shot again. I warned you I was picture happy today!

I always like these shots on other blogs

What I Wore: Wednesday, October 10, 2012

Another day, another round of bedroom shots. Meh.

What I liked:
  •  No ironing required!
  • This shirt is so easy. I should wear it more often.

What I didn't like:
  • The blue stripes on the pants weren't defined enough for them to tie the shirt to the outfit
